Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he's picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. He admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
