Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn't let the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn't a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.

Omaha Hi/Lo: Fundamental Outline

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has increased in popularity so quickly.

Omaha hi/low begins just like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of betting follows in which gamblers can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. One more round of betting ensues. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. a further round of wagering follows and then the river card is revealed. The entrants will need to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where many players can get confused. Unlike Hold'em, in which the board can be every player's hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player has to use precisely 3 cards on the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best possible hand out of everyone's, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical notion in just about every poker game.

A low hand is more complex, but really opens up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there's no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the whole pot.

It may seem complicated at first, following a few rounds you will be able to pick up on the fundamental subtleties of play easily enough. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha/8 provides an exciting array of betting possibilities and seeing that you have several individuals shooting for the high hand, as well as several trying for the low hand. If you enjoy a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it's worth your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
