Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn't allow the adverse comments from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil says that he's learning every single day and is quite humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
