Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complicated but popular poker variations. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure variation, has increased in popularity so rapidly.

Omaha/8 starts like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A sequence of wagering ensues in which players can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. Another round of wagering happens. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further round of betting follows and then the river card is revealed. The players will need to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where many entrants can get flustered. Unlike Texas Holdem, where the board can be everyone's hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the strongest hand out of every player's, it doesn't matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical notion in nearly every poker game.

The low hand is more difficult, but really free's up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that could be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no lower hand available, the high hand takes the entire pot.

Although it seems complicated at the outset, after a couple of rounds you will be able to pick up on the base subtleties of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have people wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha/8 offers an overwhelming array of wagering possibilities and owing to the fact that you have numerous players shooting for the high, as well as several battling for the low. If you love a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha/8.
