Texas Hold em Poker Legends
Stu Ungar is considered by many to the finest NL Texas hold em Poker gambler ever.
The 3 time World Poker Champ was born in New York in '53 and began playing poker prior to reaching his teens.
The young gambler began wagering gin and at the age of 10 had won his 1st gin tournament, while on holiday with his mother and father. By the age of fourteen the small poker genius had become a professional and stopped going to school.
In '54 Stu Ungar entered the history books by winning 10 grand in a gin rummy tournament without dropping a single hand, a record which still remains in New York today.
The quick speaking wiz kid has been compared, in poker terms, to sporting superstars such as Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Stu had a genuine ability for betting poker but despite his achievements in Holdem poker, he preferred wagering gin.
Stu once said that there might several day be a much better No Limit Hold'em player than him but he couldn't see how anyone could ever be a improved gin player.
In '80 Stu was put on the global map as one of the greatest Texas holdem Poker players in the world when he was crowned World Poker Champion for the 1st time. Astonishingly it was the first time he had played in the tournament.
The subsequent year he put aside any suggestions that it had been luck, by successfully protecting his title. And in 1997 Stu set the record by succeeding his third World poker championship.
Except this poker master also fought with substance abuse and a year following succeeding his 3rd title Stu Ungar died in his hotel room. According to medical doctors, he had died from a heart attack which was brought on by his lifestyle.
Stu Ungar had began with absolutely nothing except his skill and natural talent for the game which made this poker wonderful a millionaire a lot of times over.
