Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative comments from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He started playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn't a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he's learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
