Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn't allow the negative comments from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn't a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he's learning every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
