Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the closing poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a large pot with quads against Negreanu's full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest enthusiasts in the world. While playing internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy-in.

Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is accepted to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total dollar value. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players in the world might just be guys you have won't have heard of. Gus can be found betting on internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in high stakes omaha/8 and texas hold'em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in money games?
