Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but favored poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant game, has expanded in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha 8 or better begins like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A sequence of wagering follows where gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. One more round of wagering happens. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of betting happens and then the river card is flipped. The players must attempt to put together the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where a number of players get confused. Contrasted to Texas Hold 'Em, where the board can make up every player's hand, in Omaha hi-low the player has to use exactly 3 cards on the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A low hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there's no lower hand available, the high hand wins the entire pot.

It may seem difficult at first, after a few hands you will be able to pick up on the fundamental subtleties of the game easily enough. Since you have players wagering for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha High-Low provides an overwhelming assortment of wagering options and owing to the fact that you have many individuals battling for the high, along with many battling for the low hand.
