Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn't let the detrimental comments from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he's picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
