Participating in Ace/King in Holdem
Everyone who bets in Texas Holdem knows that Ace-King is one of the very best opening hands. But, it is simply that, a starting hand. It is simply two cards of a seven-card equation. In nearly every situation, you want to jump out guns blaring with Ace-King as your hole cards. When the flop comes, you must to analyze your hand and think things through before you just assume your cards are the strongest.
Like most other opportunities in Texas Holdem, understanding your rivals will assisting you in gauging your position when you hold Ace-King and see a flop like nine-eight-two. After you bet preflop and were called, you assume your opponent is also holding good cards and the flop might have missed them as badly as it missed you. Your assuming will often times be precise. Also, don't omit that many poor bettors wouldn't understand great cards if they fall over them and possibly could have called with A-x and paired the table.
If your opposing player checks, you might check and observe a free card or lay a bet and try to grab the pot up right there. If they wager, you might raise to see if they are in or fold. What you want to avoid is simply calling your opponent's bet to see what the turn brings. If any card instead of the Ace or King hits, you won't have any more information than you did after the flop. Let us say the turn shows a four and your opponent bets once again, what should you do? To call a bet on the flop you had to anticipate your hand was the strongest, so you must truly think it remains so. So, you call a bet on the turn and one more on the river to find out that your opponent was holding ten-eight and only had second pair after the flop. At that time, it dawns on you that a raise after the flop could have captured the pot right then.
A-K is a wonderful thing to find in your hole cards. Just be sure you play them carefully and they will achieve you awesome happiness at the poker table.
