Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn anything he could about poker. He would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse feedback from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn't a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he's picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
