Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn't a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
